In 2022, Celia Längle was invited by the Kunstlokal Festival to explore the music automatons of the KMM museum in Dürnten. Continuing her previous artistic practice, she examines the underlying encodings and socio-cultural entanglements. Central to this multimedia installation is a transformation of the way of encounter. Developed as an artistic comment to the historical and social context of the exhibits presented in the collection. The period of origin of the music automatons is marked by the first industrial revolution. That time conceded  the power over other people and technical achievements to a small privileged class. In addition, concepts such as productivity and mass consumption come to the fore. "A smell rises" responds to this by suggesting a contemplative and empathetic encounter with the automata and blends the boundaries between machine and human.

note: the wooden black box was left to the museum after the exhibition in the spirit of sustainability. The further use takes place independently of the artist. The artist has no influence on the context and content.
